When God Feels Silent: Learning to Trust in the Waiting

There are seasons in every believer’s life when it feels like God has gone quiet. The prayers seem unanswered, the doors stay closed, and heaven feels distant. At Mountain Valley Chapel in Gold Bar, Washington, we know those seasons well and we’ve learned that God’s silence does not mean His absence. In the waiting, God is still working.
When God feels silent, our first instinct is often to question. Did I do something wrong? Has God forgotten me? But the truth is, some of God’s greatest work happens in hidden places. Just because you can’t hear Him doesn’t mean He isn’t speaking. Sometimes He speaks through stillness, through Scripture, or through circumstances that stretch our faith. The silence of God often becomes the classroom of trust.
The Bible is filled with people who faced long seasons of waiting. Abraham waited for a son. Joseph waited in a prison cell. David waited to be king. Each one had moments where it seemed like God had forgotten them but He hadn’t. The delay was not denial; it was preparation. Waiting reveals what we believe about God. It asks the question, Will we trust Him when we can’t see the plan?
At Mountain Valley Chapel, we teach that trust grows strongest in the silence. When you can’t hear God, go back to what you know about Him. He is faithful. He is good. He keeps His promises. Use the waiting to worship, to stay in His Word, and to keep walking by faith. Even when He seems quiet, His presence is closer than you think.
We’ve seen God answer prayers in ways we never expected sometimes after years of silence. When the breakthrough finally comes, the waiting makes the blessing even sweeter. The silence was never punishment; it was preparation for what was coming next.
If you’re in a season where God feels silent, take heart. He’s not done. He’s not distant. He’s teaching you to trust Him in deeper ways. And one day, when He speaks again, you’ll realize He was there all along.
If you’re looking for a church near Gold Bar, Sultan, or Index where you can find encouragement in the waiting and strength for your faith, we invite you to join us at Mountain Valley Chapel. You don’t have to walk through the silence alone.
“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.” — Psalm 37:7 (ESV)
